Meerut, July 15 -- Two pilgrims on Kanwar Yatra were killed and several others injured in several road accidents reported in western Uttar Pradesh between Sunday and Monday morning, police officials said. In one of the incidents, Amit Singh, 30, was killed when a luxury car rammed a bike with Amit and two others on it on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway in Muzaffarnagar district. Aman, 24, and his friend Abhishek, 18, who were accompanying Amit to Haridwar, were injured. Amit died on the spot. The car driver fled, abandoning the vehicle, which was later seized by the Chhapar police. Amit, Aman, and Abhishek lived together in a rented accommodation in Ghaziabad. Abhishek was employed at a factory. Amit, who made his living by driving, is survived by his two children. In Shahjahanpur's Alhaiganj, one Ankit, 17, was killed when his motorcycle collided head-on with another bike near Sugasugi village around 11:30 PM on Sunday. Ankit, accompanied by Sohil, 18, and Vivek, 16, was travelling to Ghatia Ghat to collect Ganga water that they'd have offered to Gola Gokarannath. Sohil and Vivek, both seriously injured, were initially treated at a local hospital before being referred to a private facility in Bareilly due to their critical condition. The other driver, who sustained minor injuries, fled the scene. On the Gajraula Highway in Amroha district, four separate accidents on Sunday night and early Monday left ten kanwariyas injured. Around 10:35 pm, Anmol Saini and Rakesh Saini from Sirkoi Bhud in Moradabad were injured when an unidentified vehicle sideswiped their motorcycle about 4 km from Gajraula. Around 1:30 am, a collision between two motorcycles near Kankather Slope injured Priyanshu and Soni from Tanda in Rampur and Anil and Abhishek from Kundarki. A third accident around 2:30 am saw Munesh from Kankather, Shivram Sharma from Khushhalpur, Moradabad, and Yash from Katghar injured when their motorcycle skidded. Police admitted the injured to a community health centre (CHC) in Gajraula. Anil, Abhishek, Rakesh Saini, and Yash Saini were referred to other hospitals for further treatment.
