Two hosps' fire safety report after Monday's drive: Official
Lucknow, June 9 -- A report on the fire safety preparedness at two major healthcare institutions here is likely to be submitted after a final round of inspections on Monday, a senior fire department official said.
Chief fire officer (CFO) Ankush Mittal, who inspected the fire safety of Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute and Hospital (KSSSCI) on Saturday, expressed general satisfaction with the existing fire safety arrangements there but also pointed out areas that required improvement. "Most systems are in place, but there are some issues that need to be fixed promptly. These include clearance of exit routes, proper maintenance of fire extinguishers, and installation of additional fire detection equipment in certain blocks," he said.
Earlier this week, he also inspected the arrangements at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS). The visits were part of an ongoing audit of major medical institutions in the state capital in light of recent fire mishaps.
Mittal added that a few blocks in both KSSSCI and SGPGIMS were yet to be inspected, and a final round of visits would take place on Monday before a fire safety report is submitted. Concerns over fire safety at SGPGIMS gained urgency in light of past incidents, with the December 2023 mishap still fresh in public memory.Two people, including a child, died after a fire broke out in an operating theatre of the institute's endosurgery department.
