Haldwani, Oct. 24 -- The Nainital police on Thursday arrested two men with 162.14 grams of smack, valued at around Rs.48 lakh, from the Haldwani National Highway near Government Inter College, Motinagar, police said. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nainital PN Meena said the arrest was made during a joint checking operation by the police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) team. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (City) Prakash Chandra and Circle Officer (Haldwani) Nitin Lohani, and led by Inspector Amar Chand Sharma, in-charge of Kotwali Haldwani. He said the arrested accused were identified as Tasleem Khan (36), a resident of Rohaniya village, Baheri police station, Pilibhit district, and Mohammad Rashid Khan (25), a resident of Parewa Vaishya village, Jehanabad police station, Pilibhit district, Uttar Pradesh. He said the police team recovered 89.67 grams of smack from Tasleem Khan and 72.47 grams from Mohammad Rashid Khan. A motorcycle used in the smuggling attempt was also seized. The accused confessed that they had brought the consignment from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, with the intent to supply it in Haldwani, he said.
