Two electrocutions spark outrage over power safety lapses
Lucknow, April 18 -- Two fatal electrocution incidents have triggered outrage, with families and residents alleging serious lapses in electrical safety and oversight.
In Lucknow's Dubagga area, a 24-year-old construction worker, Suhail, died after coming into contact with an 11,000-volt overhead line in Izzatnagar around 2:40pm on Friday.
He was working on an under-construction house near Noble Public School when he was electrocuted. Locals protested, accusing the Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) of ignoring repeated complaints about high-tension wires running dangerously close to homes.
Police have begun an investigation. LESA chief engineer Ram Kumar termed the incident "unfortunate" and said a probe would ascertain the circumstances.
In a separate incident in Badaun's Dhimarpur village, 30-year-old Arvind Kumar was electrocuted while working atop a high-tension pole around 11am. His family alleged power supply was restored despite assurances of a shutdown by a lineman. Eyewitnesses said he was engulfed in flames after the current resumed. Police are probing the case....
