VARANASI, June 17 -- Two people lost their lives and four others, including three policemen, were injured in separate lightning incidents across Sonbhadra district on Monday, police said. In Dhuma village under Wyndhamganj police station, 65-year-old Ishwar Gond was sitting under a mango tree near his home when he was struck by lightning and died on the spot. A local woman, Meena Devi ,32, also received a shock during the strike and fainted. She was taken to a private hospital and is now reported to be out of danger. In a separate incident in Nigai village under Kon police station, 42-year-old Phulwanti was returning home from the market when it began to rain heavily. She took shelter under a tree near Mangeshwar Baba temple. A lightning bolt hit the tree, killing her instantly. Her family later informed the local authorities. Meanwhile, at Raipur police station, lightning struck the wireless tower inside the premises, sending a current through the computer system. Three policemen head constable Rajiv Kumar and constables Sandeep Yadav and Akhilesh suffered burn injuries in the incident. They were taken to the Community Health Centre in Vaini for treatment.
