LUCKNOW, May 24 -- With garbage still piling up in several city wards and growing complaints about inadequate door-to-door waste collection, mayor Sushma Kharakwal on Friday took stern action against municipal officials and issued a warning to the private agency in charge of waste management, said a press statement issued by Lucknow municipal corporation (LMC) on Friday. During a high-level review meeting, the mayor ordered a two-day salary deduction for all zonal sanitary officers, citing their inaction on cleanliness directives issued six months earlier. She also instructed officials to submit employee attendance records and ward-wise registers by Friday evening. "No officer will be spared for negligence. Cleanliness is non-negotiable," said Kharakwal directing officials. During the meeting, the mayor also addressed the private agency who has been contracted for door-to-door garbage collection and working in zones 2, 5, and 8. She said the agency had failed to deploy the required number of vehicles and had performed poorly in routine collection. She issued a final warning, stating that further action would be taken if noticeable improvements were not made promptly.
