Two criminals wanted in gangster case arrested in Chandauli
Varanasi, June 30 -- A Special Task Force (STF) team arrested two criminals, each carrying a reward of Rs.50,000, from Chandauli on Sunday. According to an STF statement, both were wanted in connection with a Gangster Act case registered in Chandauli.
The accused have been identified as Khurshied Ahmad and Noor Hasan, both residents of Jyotibafule Nagar in Amroha. According to the STF, five cases each are registered against the two men, including one under the Gangster Act.
Acting on a tip-off that the accused were present at Jethamal Trisection in Chandauli, an STF team-led by inspector Aditya Kumar Singh, sub-inspector Manoj Kumar and head constables Gaurav Singh, Vinod Singh, Akhilesh, Sher Bahadur, and Krishna Kumar Tripathi-reached the location and apprehended both individuals.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed that they ran a gang involved in cattle smuggling across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Assam, and West Bengal. Both have previously been arrested in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam in connection with similar offenses.
A case under the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act was registered against them in 2024 at Sayyedraja Police Station in Chandauli. Since then, they had been living in hiding in Ahmedabad, the STF said.
A 36-year-old man from the Mahewa Ghat area under the Mahewa Ghat police station limits in Kaushambi district drowned while bathing in the Yamuna River on Saturday evening. His body was recovered 17 hours later on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the deceased, Santosh Kumar Kevat, a resident of a village near Mahewa Ghat, was a farmer. He had gone to bathe in the Yamuna around 3 p.m. on Saturday. While bathing, he slipped and drowned in the deep water.
Upon receiving the news, family members rushed to the ghat and began searching for him. Police also arrived at the spot and initiated a search operation with the help of local divers, but all efforts remained unsuccessful until Saturday night.
Kevat's body was eventually found floating near Shahpur Ghat, about one kilometer downstream, around 8 a.m. on Sunday.
The police retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
The bodies of a woman and a middle-aged man were found near Patna Pond in Gauhani village, under the Charwa police station area in Kaushambi district, on Sunday morning. Both are believed to have been murdered with an axe or another sharp-edged weapon. After the killings, the assailants allegedly tried to conceal the crime by partially burying the bodies under debris.
The bodies were first spotted by Deendayal, a local resident, who had gone to his farm early Sunday morning. He noticed the body of a middle-aged man lying near Patna Pond. Alarmed, he raised a cry, and other villagers quickly gathered.
Charwa SHO P.K. Ram reached the scene and coordinated efforts to identify the victims. They were identified as Gorelal Saroj (42), a resident of Gauhani village, and Gudiya Devi (45), wife of Pappu Raidas from Bhikhari Ka Purwa in the Charwa area.
