Two cow slaughter accused held in encounter in Budaun
Meerut, Dec. 2 -- Budaun police arrested two wanted suspects, each carrying a reward of Rs.50,000, in a late-night encounter on Sunday. The duo, accused in multiple cow slaughter cases, was injured during the exchange of fire, along with a police constable. Illegal weapons, ammunition, and tools allegedly used in cow slaughter were recovered from their possession.
Police officials said they received specific inputs that two accused, wanted in a case registered at the Civil Lines police station, were present in the forested area behind DP College in Khandak village. Acting swiftly, a team from Sahaswan police surrounded the area. As the police closed in, the suspects opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate.
During the encounter, the accused, identified as Khurshid alias Qayyum and Sajid alias Bona, both residents of Dugaraiya village under Kunwargaon, were injured. Khurshid sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg, while Sajid was hit in both legs. Constable Vijay Kundu, part of the raiding team, suffered a bullet injury to his left hand. All three injured individuals were rushed to the district hospital in Badaun for treatment.
Police recovered two country-made pistols, five live cartridges, two empty shells, and equipment believed to be used in cow slaughter from the possession of the accused.
According to Sahaswan circle officer Ashok Kumar Singh, both men have a criminal history, with earlier cases filed against them under the Gangsters Act and other serious charges related to cow slaughter.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the extent of their involvement in illegal activities and to trace other members of their network....
