Two cops among six arrested in Amroha for smuggling smack
Amroha, Sept. 2 -- Police arrested six people, including two constables, for smuggling smack valued at Rs.40 lakh. The accused were on their way to Delhi in a car to sell the contraband when police intercepted them during a checking operation. The smack was recovered during the search.
Investigations revealed that the consignment had been looted from another smuggler in a joint operation by the accused smugglers and the two constables. The group had planned to sell the smack in Delhi and later share the proceeds among themselves. One of the accused is reported to be a minor. The arrests were made on Sunday.
ASP Akhilesh Bhadauria said that smuggler Mohd Nazim was acquainted with constables Yogesh and Ashu of the Dhbarasi outpost. Nazim told them that his friend Mayank Yadav possessed smack worth Rs.40 lakh. A plan was then hatched: Nazim and his associates would go to Santhelpur village in the Saidangli area to collect the smack from Mayank, while the constables would stage a raid. On seeing the police, Mayank and others would flee, leaving the smack behind. Afterwards, the consignment would be sold and the money split among them.
The plan was executed successfully. When Nazim, accompanied by his associates, went to collect the smack from Mayank Yadav, constables Yogesh and Ashu appeared at the spot. On seeing them, Mayank fled, leaving the smack behind. Pretending to escape, Nazim and his group also ran away. Later, Nazim struck a deal with the constables to sell the smack.
On Sunday, as per the arrangement, Nazim, his associates, and the two constables set out in a car for Delhi to sell the consignment. Acting on a tip-off, police launched a checking drive. Police intercepted the car under the Ganga Expressway bridge on the Ujhri-Dhbarasi road in Saidangli. A search led to the recovery of smack worth Rs.40 lakh.
