Two chain snatchers hurt in police encounter, held
LUCKNOW, May 6 -- Two chain snatchers were injured and later arrested in separate encounters with police in the Trans- Gomti Nagar area early on Monday.
"The accused, identified as Monu Rajput and Mahesh Rawat, were caught near Janeshwar Mishra Park and Sahara Bridge respectively after they opened fire on police personnel in a bid to escape," said a Lucknow Police press note.
As per deputy commissioner of police (east) Shashank Singh, the incidents occurred around 3am while police teams were patrolling the area when a suspect riding a motorcycle without a number plate was signalled to stop but instead of doing so, he opened fire on the cops.
"In the retaliatory action, he sustained a gunshot injury on leg and was nabbed by police near Janeshwar Mishra Park," the DCP said and added shortly after, police teams followed his accomplice near Sahara Bridge where a second encounter took place and the second accused also fired at the cops before being shot in the leg.
"Police recovered a pistol, a stolen chain and purse besides a bike without a registration plate from the duo," the DCP said....
