Two arrested for teen's murder and ransom plot
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 7 -- Police have arrested two youths, including a minor, for the murder of a 15-year-old boy from Hathigawan village in Pratapgarh. The boy, Ravi Patel alias Saurabh, was killed over an old enmity, and his body was thrown into a canal. According to reports, Mangaru Patel, a resident of Purnemau village under Hatigaon police station area, lodged a complaint on June 29 stating that his son, Ravi Patel,15, had gone missing without informing anyone. Police registered a case against unknown persons.
Ravi's body was found in Jaunpur a few days after his disappearance. During the investigation, police identified six people involved in his murder. Three had already been arrested On Saturday, Hathigawan police arrested Rinku alias Barkau, a resident of Singhgarh in Holagarh, Prayagraj, along with a minor.
During questioning, Rinku told police that he and his associate Sachin Gautam planned to kill Ravi due to an old enmity. On June 26, they called Ravi using a girl's voice and lured him to the Jalamau Sharda Sahayak canal culvert. All of them drank alcohol there, after which Ravi was attacked from behind .They then threw his body into the canal. The accused returned home on the deceased's motorcycle. A week later, they called Ravi's family and demanded Rs.5 lakh as ransom.
According to police, the accused tried to mislead the investigation by creating a fake kidnapping story after the murder. Their aim was to hide the motive of personal enmity and confuse the case.
