Two arrested for killing 19-year-old girl in Sambhal
MEERUT, June 10 -- Two men were arrested on Sunday for the murder of a 19-year-old girl in Sambhal on June 3, police said. They were arrested from the Badaun Highway near Fatehpur in Gunaur. According to police, the third accused remains at large.
As per the information, on June 3, the body of the girl, identified as 19-year-old Jyoti, was found in a forest near Senjna Muslim village in Junawai in Sambhal district.
A rope was tightly wrapped around her neck, with the other end tied to a slender branch of a tree, initially giving the impression of suicide. However, the post-mortem examination confirmed that she had died due to strangulation.
The investigation revealed that the girl was murdered by her lover and two of his friends after she pressured him for marriage, following a relationship that started on social media. The accused allegedly strangled her in a forest and then tried to pass it off as suicide by hanging her body from a tree.
The deceased, Jyoti, had been married about a year ago to Ankit Kumar, a resident of village Deepur under Rajpura police station. However, she was reportedly unhappy in the marriage and had been living with her parents in Maidholi village, under Junawai police station limits, for the past eight months.
Jyoti had recently entered into a relationship with Neetu, a resident of Gobla Lahra Salempur village in Aligarh. The two connected through Facebook around seven to eight months ago and had been in frequent contact since then. Neetu had even visited Jyoti multiple times in the Junawai market. According to police, Jyoti was unwilling to return to her husband's home and had faced physical abuse from her family, including beatings on May 29 and 30.
On May 31, Jyoti reportedly called Neetu and urged him to take her away. Neetu arrived in Junawai and took her to Gurgaon, where they spent the night. During their stay, Jyoti expressed her wish to live with him permanently and insisted on marriage. Unwilling to marry her, Neetu falsely assured her that he would arrange accommodation in Gurgaon and brought her back to Junawai.
Police investigations revealed that Neetu feared legal consequences after Jyoti threatened to send him to jail if he refused to marry her. He then conspired with his friends, Ranjit Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar-both residents of the same village-to kill Jyoti.
Following a complaint filed by Jyoti's father, Jhahu Singh, on June 4, the Junawai police registered a murder case against Neetu. Two of the accused were apprehended on June 8 from the Badaun Highway near Fatehpur in Gunaur. Based on the confession of one of them, Jyoti's slippers-worn at the time of the murder-were recovered from the crime scene.
ASP Anukriti Sharma confirmed that Neetu confessed to killing Jyoti with the help of his two friends after she continued to pressure him for marriage. While two of the accused have been arrested, the remaining accomplice is still on the run, and police teams have launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend them....
