Meerut, Dec. 3 -- Bareilly Development Authority (BDA) on Tuesday launched a major demolition drive in the city's Sufi Tola area, pulling down two banquet halls citing illegal construction and lack of approved building maps. The action, carried out under heavy police deployment, sparked emotional protests from local residents, particularly women who pleaded for mercy as bulldozers advanced.The demolition began around 2 pm. Two bulldozers were deployed to raze the banquet halls owned by Sarfaraz Wali Khan and Rashid Khan.BDA joint secretary Deepak Kumar said demolition orders had already been issued for both structures, and the action was part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal constructions.Sarfaraz Wali Khan is a longtime associate of the Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan.
