Tusker died of injuries after infighting: Official
Haridwar, Feb. 11 -- A 28-year-old elephant succumbed to the injuries it sustained during an infighting with another tusker, a forest official said on Tuesday.
According to the forest official, the incident came to light on Monday when a forest patrolling team discovered the injured elephant lying near the boundary of the Chila and Shyampur forest ranges. Sub-divisional officer of the Haridwar Forest Division, Poonam Kainthola, said forest personnel immediately alerted senior officials, following which senior officers and veterinary doctors rushed to the spot.
"Deep, sharp wounds caused by tusks were found on the elephant's body. The trampled and withered ground and grass in the surrounding area clearly indicated that a major conflict had taken place between two elephants," she said.
A post-mortem was conducted and the carcass was later buried within the forest area....
