Trucks collide on Prayagraj highway, traffic halted for 2 hrs
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 28 -- A collision involving three heavy vehicles brought traffic to a halt on the Prayagraj-Chakghat National Highway (NH-30) for nearly two hours on Saturday near Barethiya village under Kaundhiyara police station.
The accident occurred near the Jari police outpost due to dense fog and overspeeding, according to reports. Sudden braking by vehicles moving at high speed caused the heavy vehicles behind to crash into one another. The trailer and container remained stranded in the middle of the highway, blocking traffic.
The trailer driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled. Long queues formed on both sides of the highway, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Jari police outpost in-charge SI Sunil Kumar arrived with personnel and initiated clearance operations.
With the help of cranes, the damaged vehicles were removed from the road. "Traffic was first partially restored and later fully resumed after nearly two hours."
No serious injuries were reported in the accident. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding trailer driver and an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing....
