PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 24 -- A speeding truck lost control and hit a couple riding a motorcycle before running over two masons near Barji Morh in Soraon, Prayagraj, on Sunday morning. The two masons died on the spot, while the couple sustained serious injuries, police said. The incident sparked outrage among local villagers, who blocked the busy Sisaipah-Kapuri road with the victims' bodies, demanding compensation. The villagers also managed to intercept the truck, which had attempted to flee the scene. Police arrived and tried to calm the crowd, but the villagers refused to clear the road without assurances of compensation. According to reports, 55-year-old Amritlal, a resident of Sarai Datte village under Soraon police jurisdiction, and his neighbour, 32-year-old Vinod Kumar, were traveling on a motorcycle to Sisaipah village for work as masons. Behind them, one Ramesh Kumar and his wife, Manita Devi, were returning to Trilokpur, Sisaipah, from Sarai Dina in Soraon on a bike. Near Barji Morh, a truck first hit Ramesh Kumar's motorcycle. Losing control, it then ran over Amritlal and Vinod's bike. Amritlal and Vinod died on the spot, while Ramesh Kumar and his wife were critically injured. Following the accident, a large number of villagers gathered and chased the truck, though the driver managed to flee. Angered by the deaths, villagers blocked the road and demanded the presence of the SDM. Despite efforts by Soraon police station SHO Keshav Verma to persuade them, the families initially refused to hand over the bodies. After around two-and-a-half hours, Naib Tehsildar Rajesh Shukla arrived and assured compensation of Rs.5 lakh from the Natural Disaster Relief Fund. MLC Surendra Chaudhary and MLA Geeta Pasi, who came to express condolences, also promised financial assistance. Following these assurances, the families handed over the bodies and cleared the road....
