Truck crashes into shops in BKT area
LUCKNOW, May 17 -- A major accident was avoided in the early hours of Friday when a truck lost control and crashed into multiple roadside shops in the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area of Lucknow. The incident occurred near BKT Railway Station along Sitapur Road.
According to police, the truck veered off course and ploughed into at least six shops, coming dangerously close to the Kasba Police Outpost.
SHO Sanjay Kumar Singh of BKT police station confirmed that the truck was heading towards Sitapur when the driver reportedly dozed off at the wheel, causing the vehicle to ram into the shops. Fortunately, as the accident happened during the early hours, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Shops damaged in the crash included a plate shop owned by Sanjay Maurya, a chaat corner run by Prem Maurya, and a tea and cold drinks stall run by Raj Karan.
Other affected shops included Anil's fruit stall, Sonpal's clothing shop, and another disposable shop belonging to Mangal Maurya. Among the worst-hit was a bakery and cold drinks store owned by Rajkumar, who estimated his losses to be around Rs 2 lakh. Another vendor, Pramod Maurya, who runs a chaat stall, reported damages worth Rs 50,000.
Police have taken the truck driver into custody. Initial questioning confirmed that the driver had fallen asleep while driving, leading to the crash....
