LUCKNOW, Aug. 21 -- The controversy surrounding the 18,000 voter affidavits submitted by the Samajwadi Party to the Election Commission remains on centre stage with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav alleging that the Commission, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the district administrations across the state are weakening democracy. Speaking to the media in Tundla, Firozabad, on Wednesday, Yadav said, "Now, the fight is between the Election Commission and the DM (s). Till now, the Commission had been claiming it did not receive any affidavits regarding deleted voters, while the DMs are saying they did receive them. The Election Commission and the district magistrates have to decide on the affidavits of 18,000 voters given by us. Now, the DMs will file a report and the Commission will decide." "Everyone, including journalists, saw that people were not allowed to come out to vote in Rampur. 80 per cent of the votes cast in the Kundarki (assembly) by-election went to the BJP," the SP chief alleged. "The collusion of the BJP government, Election Commission and local administration is the 'election trio' which has spoiled the whole work and robbed the country's democracy. Now the public will hold this 'trio' to court," Yadav said. The Kannauj MP further stated that the EC will do whatever the BJP says. "The BJP is afraid that the police personnel who cast votes in civilian dress in the by-election will be identified. That is why the recording of voters is not being shared," he added....
