Trickster brides' gang busted in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, June 9 -- Khuldabad police on Saturday busted a gang of 'trickster brides' who had duped at least 20 unsuspecting grooms over the past three years.
The gang comprised 11 members, including four women and seven men, who lured men into marrying women posing as suitable brides from decent backgrounds.
Once the marriage was solemnised, the brides would flee with valuables and cash from the groom's house. Police recovered six Aadhaar cards and Rs.35,000 in cash from the arrested members.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested key members near the Ghanshyam Nagar railway crossing foot overbridge. Those arrested include Shahana of Kareli, Nisha Kumari and Preeti Devi of Pipalgaon, Mamta Bhartiya of Jhunsi, Asif and Mohd Jainul of Shahganj, and Shriram Gurjar of Alwar, Rajasthan.
According to SHO Khuldabad Surendra Kumar Verma, the gang was active in Prayagraj, Kaushambi, and nearby districts.
A complaint by Gopal Gurjar of Alwar, Rajasthan, triggered the latest action. He reported that the gang had cheated his family of Rs.1.75 lakh by creating fake identities and documents in the name of his son's marriage.
During interrogation, one member revealed that Shriram Gurjar operated in Alwar and helped lure victims using forged documents and fake relatives. After marriage, the bride would escape midway to her new home or, if not possible, leave shortly after reaching, aided by male accomplices who would stage an excuse to take her away.
All arrested have been sent to jail, police said....
