transplant unit to Open at KGMU Shatabdi Hosp
LUCKNOW, Dec. 10 -- King George Medical University (KGMU) vice-chancellor Prof Sonia Nityanand on Tuesday announced the launch of a dedicated transplant unit at its Shatabdi Hospital, which will provide comprehensive organ transplantation services. She also announced the formation of a special committee to streamline procedures and ensure efficient coordination for patients.
The announcement came during an "Organ Donation Awareness Program" at the Trauma Centre, KGMU, organised in collaboration with Alamban Associates Charitable Trust.
Sandeep Kumar, chairman of Alamban Associates Charitable Trust, spoke on the need for organ-donation awareness. Dr Medhavi Gautam, associate professor, department of medicine, KGMU, explained the technical aspects of transplantation, pointing out the gap between demand and availability, and noted that a single donor can save up to eight lives.
Nursing students performed a street play portraying emotional and persuasive scenes to show the societal impact of organ donation.
