Train rams bike, couple and 2 kids among 5 dead
Meerut, Dec. 25 -- Five people, including a couple and their two young children, were killed on Wednesday evening when a passenger train rammed into their motorcycle while they were crossing a railway track in Shahjahanpur district.
According to officials, all five victims were riding on a single motorcycle when the accident occurred near Rauja railway station under the jurisdiction of Rauja police station.
The motorcycle was attempting to cross the railway line through a pedestrian passage when it was hit by the train.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said the incident took place around 6.30 pm as a passenger train travelling from the Lucknow side approached the down line. "As the motorcycle reached the track, the train hit it, killing all five occupants on the spot," he said. The deceased were identified as Sethpal (40), his wife Pooja (38), their two children aged between four and six years, and Sethpal's brother-in-law Hari Om (45). All were residents of Vanka village in neighbouring Lakhimpur. Preliminary information suggests that the family was returning to Vanka village at the time of the incident.
Police said the couple had likely visited Hari Om in Nigohi village, and all five were travelling back together when the tragedy occurred. SP Dwivedi said he personally reached the spot soon after the accident and supervised the identification process. The bodies were later sent for postmortem examination. Following the incident, rail and road traffic in the area was temporarily affected but has since been restored, police added....
