VARANASI, Dec. 6 -- A 55-year-old businessman, Omprakash Maurya alias Umashankar, was killed by unidentified assailants on Amra Pachkhari road near Nonar village in the Tulsi Ashram area of Chandauli on Friday, police said. The incident came to light when passersby saw Omprakash's blood-soaked body. Police said the kin informed them that Omprakash, a resident of Nonar village, had gone out for his usual morning walk. Around 5 am, he was walking on the Amra Pachkhari road after crossing the railway crossing. A short while later, people passing by found his blood-soaked body lying there. Sticks and rods were found nearby, suggesting that the businessman had been beaten to death. The body was then sent to the district hospital for post-mortem. A forensic team also arrived at the scene and collected evidence. Circle officer Sakaldiha, Sneha Tiwari, said a case would be registered based on the complaint filed by the family members, and further action would be taken.
