Rudrapur, June 29 -- Tourists will be allowed to take metal water bottles instead of plastics during jungle safari in the Fato zone of Terai west forest division in Kumaon, officials said on Saturday. The forest authorities of the division have ordered metal water bottles to be manufactured to implement their initiative. Tourists have to pay for the price of water and deposit a security amount for the bottle which will be refunded after the safari, they added. "In an initiative to make the Fato zone free of plastics, we are introducing metal water bottles for tourists. Forest staff charge for metal water bottles and ask them to deposit security and security will be returned at the end of safari," said PC Arya, divisional forest officer (DFO), Terai west forest division in Kumaon. Fato zone provides jungle safari and night stays round the year. While night stays and safaris are banned in Corbett Tiger Reserve CTR) during monsoon season, the Fato zone provides both the facilities, officials said. During the safaris, tourists carry plastic water bottles with them. The forest staff make appeals to the tourists to bring back the plastic bottles after the safaris, but some of them dump them inside the forest. Throwing plastic bottles and polythene packs affect the ecology of the Fato zone, officials said. The forest authorities are now planning to provide metal water bottles to the tourists. Orders for manufacturing such bottles have already been placed. Now, forest staff of Fato zone will provide water filled metal bottles to the tourists at the charge of Rs.20 per bottle and will deposit a security amount of Rs.200. The security amount will be returned to the tourists after they return the metal water bottles, officials said. "The bottles will be filled up by members of the women's self-help groups. The initiative will offer employment to the local women," said the DFO....
