LUCKNOW, May 3 -- J30 ITF Junior Tennis Tournament, starting this month in Lucknow, will see the participation of emerging players even though the top 50, from both boys' and girls' categories, in India will be missing the event. The event, which is due to be played from May 12 to 17 at the tennis facility at Vijayant Khand Stadium here, will be the second in the country in the current cycle, after the one scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) from May 5 to 10. It is an entry-level junior tournament in the international circuit and, thus, will see lower ranked players. However, there will be no shortage in terms of quality with players from across the country eager to participate and give their best. Kriish Tyagi (World No. 42) and Rethin Pranav (World No. 63), who won the men's national last year as a lucky loser, will be getting ready for the French Open and Wimbledon junior tournaments. They will focus on bigger events in Asia and elsewhere. Similarly, in the girls' section, Maaya Rajeshwaran (World No. 77 junior) and 25 other top internationally ranked Indian players will not compete here in Lucknow event. Fifteen-year-old Maaya finished runner-up in the women's event of the last National Championship, and more importantly was semi-finalist in the $115,000 WTA event in Mumbai. She trains at the Rafael Nadal Academy and will be competing in higher level ITF junior tournaments so as to push her ranking and get into the French Open junior event. But still there will be some very good girls competing in the event in Lucknow, who are also already competing in ITF women's events. After the last date of withdraw on Friday, as many as 22 players in the boys' section. Including only foreigner Om Kumaran Chinnaswamy, has confirmed their participation. In contrast, the main draw in the girls' section has three foreigners of Indian origin. The three from USA are Swanika Roy, Isha Kaushik and Aanya Choubey. In the recent past, Lucknow played host to ITF Men's Championship and Davis Cup tie between India and Morocco last year. The qualifying rounds of the ITF event will take place on May 10 and 11....
