MEERUT, Sept. 13 -- The tombs of Sufi saint Babbal Shah and his followers were found vandalised in Phalauda area of Meerut district late on Thursday night. When the incident came to light on Friday morning, it sparked outrage among locals and a crowd gathered at the site. Residents later submitted a written complaint at Phalauda police station, demanding strict action against those behind the act. "On receiving information, a police team from the station, along with the circle officer and other senior officers reached the location. The damaged area has been repaired," said superintendent of police (Meerut rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra. Mishra further said two police teams have been asked to probe the incident and apprehend those responsible for it. "A case will be registered and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation," the cop said. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MLA from Sardhana Atul Pradhan condemned the attack, describing it as a "serious and unfortunate act".
