LUCKNOW, July 28 -- A two-and-a-half-year-old boy died under suspicious circumstances in Badi Juggauli area of Gomti Nagar in Lucknow late Sunday night. The child was found unconscious with injuries on his face and arms. He was declared dead at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS). Acting on the hospital's alert, police detained the child's stepfather for questioning. According to police, the boy's mother, a domestic worker, returned home around 10pm and found her son lying unresponsive while her second husband sat silently nearby. She rushed the boy to hospital, but he could not be saved. Gomti Nagar station house officer Brijesh Chandra Tiwari said the woman had remarried four months ago and alleged that the second husband frequently assaulted the child. The stepfather, a daily wage labourer, has been detained and is being questioned. "The body has been sent for post-mortem, which will be conducted on Monday. Further action will depend on the post-mortem report. Till then we will question the neighbours and relatives," Tiwari said....
