PRAYAGRAJ, June 9 -- In a significant move to enhance the functioning of the higher education department in Uttar Pradesh, a proposal has been submitted to the state government for the establishment of ten new regional offices. This step aims to ease the workload and improve accessibility for teachers and staff of 171 government colleges and 331 aided non-government colleges, sparing them the need to travel long distances for administrative tasks. The initiative is also expected to strengthen the overall efficiency of the higher education system in the state. According to Director of Higher Education Dr. Amit Bhardwaj, the earlier proposal could not be finalised due to certain errors. However, a revised version has now been submitted to the state government after correcting those issues. He added that approval is expected soon, following which the process of setting up the new regional offices will begin, including the creation of new posts. It is worth mentioning that currently, the regional offices of the higher education department are operational in the headquarters of eight divisions in the state-Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, Meerut, and Bareilly. Due to the absence of higher education officers in the remaining ten divisional headquarters- including Prayagraj, Aligarh, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Basti, Chitrakoot, Devipatan, Farrukhabad, and Moradabad- the responsibilities of these regions are currently being managed by officers from the existing eight regional offices. As a result, teachers and staff of colleges in these 10 divisional districts often face long delays in receiving administrative support. The implementation of the new system is expected to significantly resolve this issue.
