Gulariha police station in-charge Vijay Pratap Singh said the accused, Sanoj Nishad, works as a driver supplying poultry feed. On December 11, Sanoj called the emergency number 112 and claimed that two criminals riding another motorcycle robbed him of Rs.50,000 in Jungle Harpur. CCTV footage raised doubts about the complaint. Vijay Pratap Singh said Sanoj confessed that he had lodged a false robbery complaint to arrange money for his son's birthday on December 31 and to repay his debts.
