Tigress behind fatal attacks in Pilibhit shifted to Kanpur zoo
KANPUR, July 29 -- A four-year-old tigress suspected of killing four people in Pilibhit district was captured and relocated to Kanpur Zoological Park following a joint operation by forest officials and zoo authorities.
The tigress, spotted frequently near agricultural fields in Dandiya village, was tranquilised late Saturday and transported overnight under the supervision of a zoo team led by Dr Nasir. She arrived at the zoo on Sunday night and has been placed under a four-month quarantine, zoo director Dr Kanhaiya Patel said.
"She will remain in the hospital area under veterinary observation until a final decision is taken on whether she should be included in the zoo or released back into the wild," Patel added.
Wildlife experts suggest the tigress may have been separated from her mother at an early age. "Young tigers without maternal training often fail to establish forest territories and may enter human areas in search of food and space," they said....
