Tiger cub carcass found in Haldwani
Rudrapur, April 17 -- The carcass of a three-to-four-month-old tiger cub was found in the Fatehpur forest range under the Terai West forest division in Nainital district on Thursday morning, forest officials said.
According to forest officials, the male cub is suspected to have been killed in an attack by another tiger or a leopard.
"A carcass of a male tiger cub was spotted in our range in the morning. On receiving information, we reached the spot and brought the carcass to the range office. After conducting the post-mortem examination, the carcass was disposed of as per protocol," said Pradeep Asgola, ranger, Fatehpur forest range.
Forest officials said some villagers spotted the cub's carcass near the Sita-Ram temple adjacent to Paniyali village in the Fatehpur forest range and alerted the forest department.
A forest team led by the ranger reached the spot and took the carcass into custody.
It was later brought to the range office, where veterinary staff conducted the post-mortem. Asgola said the cub might have been separated from its mother and could have been killed by another tiger or a leopard.Forest officials have also advised villagers not to venture into the nearby forest areas as the tigress may be moving around the area in search of the cub. Notably, a woman identified as Kamla Fartyal was killed in a tiger attack in the Fatehpur range on February 25.
Forest personnel later tranquilised and rescued the tiger involved in the incident. In July last year carcass of an eight-year-old male tiger was found in the Chandni beat of Bailparao range under the Tarai West Forest Division in Kumaon....
