PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 2 -- Three suspects involved in the July 28 robbery of a jeweller in Avasanganj Bazaar were arrested late Thursday night following a police encounter near the Nevada Canal in the Sangrampur area of Pratapgarh district. One of the accused sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the exchange of fire, police said. Officers recovered stolen jewellery, firearms, a motorcycle and a scooter from the suspects, all of whom are residents of Prayagraj, officials confirmed. The robbery took place when Ramesh Soni, a local jeweler, was returning home after closing his shop. He was carrying a bag of jewellery when three men on a motorcycle snatched it and fled the scene. Acting on the case, Sangrampur Police Station SHO Satyendra Singh Bhadoria and his team were conducting vehicle checks near the Nevada Canal late Thursday night. When they attempted to stop three men on a motorcycle and a scooter, the suspects opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate. One suspect was shot in the leg and apprehended along with the other two, said circle officer (Lalganj) Ashutosh Mishra. The injured suspect was identified as Neeraj Pasi, alias Kuldeep Bhartiya, a resident of Matadeen Ka Purwa in Phaphamau, Prayagraj. He was taken to the Sangrampur Community Health Center for treatment. The other two arrested were Sanjeev Kumar, alias Toofani Kannaujia of Gauhari, Phaphamau, and Abhishek Soni, alias Chhote, also of Phaphamau. Police recovered two country-made pistols (.315 and .312 bore), the stolen jewellery, a motorcycle and a scooter from their possession.
