Three of family drown in Ganga
LUCKNOW, May 26 -- Three members of a family from Amethi, including a father and son duo, died due to drowning while taking bath in the Ganga at a ghat in Rae Bareli. They had come to perform the rituals after cremation of an elderly member of a family on Sunday morning, said senior police officials.
Taking cognizance of the incident, chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over death of three members of the family and expressed his solidarity with them. He instructed the district officials concerned to provide the best possible treatment for the survivors and assist the family to return with the bodies to their place for last rites.
Rae Bareli police said the deceased have been identified as Chandra Kumar Kaushal, 60, Bal Chandra, 42, and Bal Chandra's son, Aryansh, 12. He said nine members of the family of one Ram Kaushal, who had died on May 23, had come for immersion of the remains after cremation at his native place in Gadriyadeeh village of Amethi and performed the rituals at Rani Shivala Ghat under Dalmau police station limits on Sunday. He said the incident happened when all of them were taking bath at the ghat.
