Three missing minor boys found dead in a pond in Basti, probe on
GORAKHPUR, July 23 -- In a tragic incident, the bodies of three minor boys, including two siblings, who had been missing since Monday evening, were found floating in a pond in Lohroly village under the jurisdiction of the Old Basti police station in Basti district on Tuesday.
The news sent shockwaves through the village and sparked protests over the alleged inaction of police personnel.
Parents of the deceased claimed they had informed the police about their missing children, but no action was taken.
They also highlighted the absence of a boundary wall around the pond, which they said posed a significant risk. Villagers further alleged that the village panchayat had failed to erect a boundary wall despite repeated demands, implying collusion with "mining mafias".
The deceased have been identified as siblings Aditya Vishwakarma, 10, and Ayoush Vishwakarma,7, and Virat Vishwakarma,8.
They had been missing since Monday evening. A bicycle, believed to be theirs, was recovered near the site of the tragic incident, along with their slippers.
SP Basti Abhinandan Kumar stated that police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and initiated an inquiry into the case.
He added that a police team has interrogated the parents and attempting to collect CCTV footage from near the site. Kumar emphasized that the post-mortem report is crucial to determine the exact cause of death and solve the case.
