PRAYAGRAJ, May 3 -- Three mini stadiums in the district are set for a facelift, with the government releasing a budget of Rs 3 crore to the Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) department. The stadiums slated for renovation are located in Shankargarh, Handia and Koraon tehsils. According to Gulshan Sharma, district commandant, PRD, each of the three stadiums has been allotted Rs 1 crore. Construction work is expected to begin soon and will be expedited to ensure that sportspersons benefit from improved facilities and training conditions. Currently, the stadiums suffer from poor maintenance. Roofs, walls and plastering are in a dilapidated state, and the grounds are in no condition to support regular sports practice. A proposal for renovations was sent to the government last year and has now received approval. The makeover will include repairing the boundary walls, fresh painting, improved seating arrangements, and general structural upgrades. These mini stadiums host district-level competitions organized annually in November and December by the Youth Welfare and PRD department. The stadiums were originally built to support the Centre's Khelo India initiative, aimed at promoting sports at the grassroots level. Currently, five mini stadiums exist in Prayagraj district: Shankargarh, Koraon, Handia, Chaka and Phulpur....
