Udaipur, Dec. 14 -- At least three people were killed in Chittorgarh on Friday night when a van rammed into a stationary pickup vehicle and was later hit from behind by a speeding truck, police said. According to police, the accident occurred around 11pm near Nimbahera on National Highway-56 when a pickup vehicle had developed a mechanical fault and was parked on the roadside near Vasundhara Multy.. Confirming the incident, Station House Officer Sanjay Sharma said, "On Friday night, a pickup vehicle was standing on the roadside due to a mechanical fault near Vasundhara Multy. While the driver was trying to fix it, a van coming from Chittorgarh collided with the pickup. Shortly after, a truck coming from behind hit the van from the rear, due to which the van was completely crushed." Three people died on the spot in the accident, while one person was also seriously injured. The deceased were identified as Lakhan Mal (40) and his wife Sarita Mal (36), residents of Sarwania Maharaj in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh, and pickup driver Basanti Lal Prajapat (35), a resident of Bhuinya Khedi, Mandsaur (MP). Hasteemal Pamecha, who was travelling in the pickup, sustained serious injuries and was referred to Chittorgarh for treatment. The couple Lakhan Mal and Sarita Mal were returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Chittorgarh. Lakhan Mal ran a private school in Sarwania Maharaj, while his wife also assisted him in running the school. SHO Sanjay Sharma said that the truck driver fled the spot after the accident....
