Raipur, Sept. 4 -- Three people were killed and 22 others injured when a sports utility vehicle (SUV), allegedly driven by an inebriated man, crashed into a religious procession in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday, adding the accused driver, Sukhsagar Vaishnav (40), has been arrested. CM Vishnu Deo Sai announced a compensation of Rs.5 lakh to kin of each of the deceased and Rs.50,000 each to the injured. The incident took place late Tuesday night in Jurudand village when over 100 residents were taking part in a procession for the immersion of Lord Ganesh's idol, Jashpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shashi Mohan Singh said.
