Agra, May 12 -- Agra police arrested three persons and seized 191.680 kg of illegal ganja (marijuana), valued at over Rs.1.5 crore in the international market. The arrests were made on the Agra-Firozabad National Highway while the accused were transporting the contraband from Odisha to Agra and nearby areas. Deputy commissioner of police (Agra city) Sonam Kumar informed the media at a press conference on Sunday that the arrest was made on Saturday evening. The container was seized from the service road of NH-2 connecting Agra with Firozabad. "In all, 191.680 kg of ganja was seized. The three arrested are Monu Sharma from Dholpur, Pramod Goswami from the trans Yamuna area in Agra, and Deepu Goswami from a village in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh," said Kumar. On interrogation, the accused admitted they had been involved in trafficking ganja from Odisha to Agra and Mathura for several years, dealing mostly in cash with suppliers and buyers. The contraband was hidden under banana leaves in the container. "A case has been registered as crime number 173/2025 under sections 8/20/29/60 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at trans Yamuna police station.
