VARANASI, Oct. 11 -- Three accused, allegedly involved in the snatching of cash, mobile phone and gold jewellery, and the molestation of a woman near Echo Point, were arrested after an encounter in Sonbhadra on Friday. Police reported that three illegal country-made pistols, three live cartridges, three empty cartridges, two looted mobile phones and Rs.7,000 in cash were recovered from their possession. A police officer stated that they received information from an informant about a gang of criminals present near an electric pole on a hill, approximately 300 meters to the left of the Lodhi Toll Plaza, intending to carry out a crime. Acting on this information, a police team immediately cordoned off the area. Seeing themselves surrounded, the criminals opened fire on the police team. The police team retaliated in self-defense, injuring three accused in the leg, while one accused took advantage of the darkness and fled the scene. The accused were identified as Ajay Kumar, 23, August Kumar, 27, and Chandrabhushan, 40, all residents of different localities in Sonbhadra.
