PRAYAGRAJ, April 15 -- Cyber fraudsters continue to target unsuspecting residents in the city. In three separate incidents, a total of Rs.31.21 lakh was siphoned off from victims, including a retired college principal. The cyber crime police have registered FIRs in all cases and started investigations. According to officials, Keshav Prasad Dwivedi, a retired college principal from Koraon who currently lives in Allapur, lost Rs.5.11 lakh from his bank account. His mobile phone was stolen during a Ganga bathing ritual on Basant Panchami. Though he blocked his SIM card and got a replacement, the fraud came to light only when he later visited the bank and found the money missing. In another case, Laxmikant Tiwari, an elderly resident of Rajrooppur, was cheated of Rs.16 lakh. He received a call from fraudsters posing as officials, who threatened him with arrest in a fake money laundering case. Fearing legal action, he transferred the money in several transactions. In the third incident, Ajay Khatik, a resident of Hastings Road, lost Rs.10.10 lakh in an online trading scam. He was lured by a woman identifying herself as "Sarvari Sara", who promised high returns through a fake investment scheme run via a mobile application. Cyber crime police station in-charge Om Narayan Gautam said that FIRs have been lodged in all three cases and further probe is underway. Police have advised people to stay alert and not share personal or financial details with unknown callers or suspicious online platforms. A 50-year-old motorcyclist died after a dumper truck hit his bike near Hathigan village in the trans-Yamuna area on Tuesday afternoon, police said. The deceased has been identified as Rajmani Yadav, a resident of Meja. He was travelling from Gauhaniya to Karachhana when the accident took place. Near Hathigan village, a dumper truck coming from the opposite direction allegedly rammed into his motorcycle. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot, police added. The truck driver fled the scene with the vehicle soon after the accident. Local residents informed the police, who reached the spot and found the victim dead. He was later identified through documents and a mobile phone found on him. His family has been informed. Eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred when the motorcyclist tried to overtake another bike. Police have sent the body for postmortem and registered a case against an unidentified driver. Efforts are on to trace the vehicle and arrest the accused, officials said. A 38-year-old man died after being hit by a truck near the ITI College area in Naini on Tuesday, police said. The victim, Suresh Kumar, a mason from Lakshmipur in the Karachhana area, was riding his motorcycle when the accident occurred. Eyewitnesses said the truck dragged the motorcycle for nearly 200 metres after it got stuck in the front portion of the vehicle. He died on the spot due to severe injuries. The driver abandoned the truck and fled before help could arrive. Police reached the scene and seized the vehicle. SHO Manoj Kumar said a case has been registered on the complaint of the victim's family, and efforts are underway to trace the driver....
