This day, last year: It's hot, but not that hot!
LUCKNOW, June 1 -- Last year, 48 people died due to heat stroke in six districts in three weeks from May 28 to June 18.
This year, the summer, so far, has remained much better, as of and on, there have been brief spells of rain.
Last year, on May 30, mercury broke a 29-year-old heat record in Lucknow as the day temperature rose to 45.1 degrees Celsius. Earlier, the highest day temperature in the state capital was 46.5 degrees Celsius on May 31, 1995, as per IMD data.
A day later, on May 31, 2024, the state capital had recorded the hottest day of the season as mercury rose to 45.8 degree celsius, 5.6 degrees above normal.
It was then the ninth all-time maximum temperature for the month. The second highest day temperature for Lucknow was 46.2 degrees Celsius on May 28, 1966 and the third highest was 45.9 degrees on May 30, 1995.
Cut to May 2025: On May 30 (Friday), day temperature was 40.2 degrees Celsius against last year's 45.1 degrees. Towards evening, some parts of the state capital experienced a brief spell of rain with thundery development which turned the weather pleasant.
Likewise on May 31 (Saturday), it was 40.5 degrees compared to last year's 45.8 degree Celsius.
On May 30, 2024, the minimum temperature in Lucknow was 32.4deg C which was 6.9 degrees above normal.
This year, on May 30, it was 28 degrees, 4.4 degrees less than last year's....
