Thieves cut through shop roof, steal over 80 mobile phones
Lucknow, Oct. 12 -- Burglars broke into a mobile phone shop by cutting through its tin roof and decamped with over 80 mobile phones worth nearly Rs.20 lakh, besides Rs.25,000 cash near the Patanala outpost in Lucknow's Chowk area late Friday night. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the shop.
The theft occurred at Zahoor Telecommunication Point located near Zaki Ali Imambara, barely 10 steps from the Patanala police outpost, according to police.
Shop owner Mohd Arshad Zahoor, resident of Jahoori Mohalla, reached his shop around 11.30 am on Saturday and discovered that the roof had been cut open. On checking, he found that mobile phones of various brands, mobile accessories, debit and credit cards, and cash kept at the counter were missing. "I saw that the entire stock of phones and cash were gone. When I checked the CCTV footage, one thief could be seen calmly handing over phones one by one to his accomplice," Zahoor said. He estimated the total loss at nearly Rs.20 lakh.
Confirming the incident, Lucknow Police, in their official statement, said, "Mohd Arshad Zahoor submitted a written complaint at Chowk police station regarding the theft on Saturday afternoon.
