Themes take shape as Mahalaya ushers in Puja festivities in Lko
Lucknow, Sept. 22 -- As Mahalaya ushers in the Durga Puja spirit this Sunday, city puja committees are giving finishing touches to pandals with themes ranging from golden forests to temple replicas.
At Rabindra Palli, artisans are recreating the Badrinath temple, using 35,000 feet of bamboo and timber poles for a 45-foot structure. "This is our 42nd year of celebrations," said president Sonali Banerjee.
In Sushant Golf City, the Durga Puja Sewa Samiti is building a Golden Forest pandal featuring animal statues, including a chess-piece horse.
At Sahar Estate, the Laxmi Narayan Temple's Tamil Nadu-style pandal marks the 25th year of puja. "Last year, we recreated Ayodhya's Ram Mandir, which drew much attention," said president of Sadbhavna Sanskritik Samiti Ram Avatar Pandey....
