The early chill has taken Lucknowites by surprise, surge in woollen sales
India, Nov. 30 -- The city experienced some of the coldest nights of the season, as the minimum temperature dropped to 10 degrees Celsius, marking a drop of 1.4 degrees below the normal average for this time of year..
The significant dip in mercury was attributed by the weather office to the revival of cold westerlies originating from the neighbouring hill states, which have replaced the previously prevailing warm easterlies. "Temperatures will remain the same for the next two days, and thereafter a slight rise in temperatures is expected. There will be mist during morning hours and a hazy sky later. The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 26 and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively," shares official from Met Centre Lucknow.
The falling temperature has led to a significant surge in sales for woolen vendors. The owner of New Woollen and Hosiery in Hazratganj expressed surprise at the early rush. "This is the first time we're seeing such a swift demand in November. It's unbelievable that we have already ordered a second lot of jackets for the season-something that hardly happened in the last few years."
Another vendor, operating a makeshift shop for woollen caps and shawls in Halwasiya, Hazratganj, shared a similar account: "Do din pehle toh der raat tak sale hui. I literally sold all the caps and socks I had shelved for the day."
The unexpected shift in weather is posing challenges for residents, especially those with young children.
Reema Biswas Sinha, a housewife and mother of two school-going kids, finds it difficult to manage the sudden change. "Though schools had asked kids to be in winter uniform, we were not prepared for such a change in November. Early December hardly gets to see heavy winters. I am yet to bring out regular woolens from my storeroom cupboards," she laments. "Soniya Alam, a Bachelor of Arts student at Lucknow University, says it's time to shiver already. "The chill is back quite early, and our morning commute to the college has already started to get hampered. Though there's less fog , the chill is definitely high, and we have to head out all packed in woollens for the morning classes."...
