Jaipur, Oct. 12 -- Tensions in Alwar district were palpable after a 24-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob, leading to protests by several right-wing Hindutva outfits, police said on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Karan Malhotra (24), was allegedly assaulted by a mob after a verbal clash at a dhaba in Alwar on Friday. "The incident happened on Friday night when the deceased Karan Malhotra's brother, Chintu Malhotra (32), was returning home with his wife and children," Ramgarh deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sunil Sharma said. Police said that Chintu had stopped at a roadside dhaba during their trip. "He had a verbal dispute with the owner, Munfed Khan, over some payments which immediately escalated in a violent clash when Khan and his 13 other aides slashed Chintu's car and started beating him with sticks," Sharma said. Officials said that Chintu later called his brother Karan who reached the spot and tried to pacify. "The mob, eventually, unleashed a brutal assault on Karan as well. He sustained serious injuries at his skull when he was attacked with the rim of a cycle. Meanwhile, Chintu also had a fracture on his left hand," the DSP said. He added that Karan succumbed to his injuries on Friday nigh Police said that following the alleged assault, the accused fled from the site of the crime. "An FIR was lodged against 14 people," the DSP said. "Karan's body was sent for an autopsy -- a report of which is awaited. We are also searching for the culprits"...
