Tejashwi Yadav's letter to PM irks JD(U)
PATNA, May 5 -- A day after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spearhead Tejashwi Yadav wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the wake of Centre's announcement of caste enumeration, with several demands, including reservation in the private sector, the JD(U) on Monday hit back,
In an open letter to RJD chief Lalu Prasad on the day the Opposition's joint meeting is happening, which was made public, JD(U) chief spokesman and MLC Neeraj Kumar, accused him of doing 'historic injustice' with the extremely backward classes.
Neeraj also furnished an official document with his letter to underline former Bihar CM and Bharat Ratna recipient Karpoori Thakur's 'insult by Lalu Prasad'.
In the document, then Deputy Speaker of Bihar Vidhan Sabha Shivnandan Paswan wrote to Lalu Prasad that arrangement be made to bring Karpoori Thakur to the House.
"My jeep does not have fuel. He can come by rickshaw if he deems it necessary. He has been CM twice. Why does he not buy a car?" was the reply from Lalu Prasad, which Neeraj has tagged with the letter with a caption "Karpoori ke apmaan me, Lalu Yadav maidan me".
Neeraj has also highlighted the 'injustice done with the EBCs during the RJD regime from 1990-2005 when they had negligible representation in the ministry, board, corporation and administration'.
"For example, out of 272 ministers during the 1990-2005 period, there were just 18 from the EBC, which comes to less than 6.6%. Besides, there was no backward and EBC department and there was no reservation for the EBC in the panchayats or on single posts," he wrote.
The JD(U) leader has further written that despite being in the role of 'kingmaker' at the Centre, RJD never made any effort for caste enumeration nor tried for caste survey, as Lalu Prasad got involved in the fodder scandal.
"The list is long. During the RJD regime, there was no effort made for the education of girls, especially those from the EBCs, as there was fear that once educated, they would seek their rights. You have made your son your political heir. He will also have to shoulder the burden of your misdeeds," Neeraj wrote.
He said that the backward classes and EBCs were now an empowered lot due to the initiatives of the Nitish Kumar government and could not be waylaid anymore by empty rhetoric from those who did nothing for them when they got opportunity....
