PRAYAGRAJ, May 6 -- : The bodies of two youths who drowned in the tons river at Patpar, Deora village, under Kaundhiyara police station on Sunday evening, were recovered on Monday morning after an extensive search operation. According to reports, the victims, Harshit Pandey,18, and Shikhar Shukla,17, had gone for a picnic with three friends from Chandrapur village (also known as Basmahua) in the Tharwai police station area. While bathing in the river, Harshit began to drown, and Shikhar attempted to save him, but both were swept away by the strong current. Efforts by local villagers to rescue the pair were unsuccessful. The state disaster response force (SDRF) team, alongside villagers, searched the river through the night but was unable to locate the bodies. On Monday morning, expert diver Rajesh Nishad from Kakrai village in Meja tehsil was called to assist in the operation. At approximately 7 am, Nishad located the body of Shikhar Shukla, and about 90 minutes later, the body of Harshit Pandey was recovered. Kaundhiyara police station SHO Kuldeep Sharma was present at the scene. Initially, both families refused to allow post-mortem examination but the SHO Sharma persuaded the families to allow it.
