Teenager dies as boat capsizes in river
Gorakhpur, Oct. 26 -- An incident took place on Saturday in Gorakhpur district when a small boat carrying eight people overturned in the Gorra River near Karhi Ghat under Jangha Police Station.
According to officials, villagers and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) members rescued seven passengers safely. However, 14-year-old Krishna Chauhan from Jogia village drowned in the river and could not be saved.
The boat was going from Karhi to Barahi when it suddenly became unstable and turned over. Krishna was travelling with his father, Mahesh Chauhan, who survived the accident. The strong current carried Krishna away before help could reach him. An investigation is being carried out to find out the cause and to check if safety rules were followed. Circle officer anurag singh said, "We are investigating how the boat lost control and capsized. Action will be taken if there was any carelessness."
In another incident, a BCom second-year student from Buxar, Bihar, tried to end her life by jumping into the Rapti River in Gorakhpur on Saturday morning after a family dispute. She was rescued in time by the police. The girl told officers that she had planned to visit her sister but changed her mind at the Gorakhpur Railway Station and decided to jump into the river instead....
