Rudrapur, June 9 -- Three people bathing in rivers and canals drowned in separate incidents across Kumaon region in the past 24 hours, police officers said on Sunday. The body of a 16-year-old boy, Mohit Rana, was found on Sunday morning after he lost his life while bathing in Sharda canal in Khatima on Saturday, they added. In Haldwani, 28-year-old Himanshu Pan, a bank employee drowned while bathing in Nalena nullah near Jeolikote during a picnic with three friends on Saturday evening. According to police, his body was later found lodged between rocks downstream. Shyam Singh Bora, in-charge of the Jeolikot police outpost, said, "Upon receiving information, we immediately reached the site and called in the SDRF team. The body was recovered by evening." In another incident, 24-year-old Anas, a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, drowned while bathing in the Kosi river near Ramnagar on Saturday. He had recently returned from Saudi Arabia where he was employed, and was visiting home to celebrate Eid.
