Teen killed in big cat attack in south Kheri forest div
Lakhimpur Kher, May 5 -- A teenaged boy, Sandip, around 14 years, was reportedly attacked and killed by a big cat near Ramnagar Kalan village, under the Bhira police station limits on Monday evening.
The area, where the incident took place is located along the Sharda river, close to Bhira range of Dudhwa buffer zone and Gola range of south Kheri forest division.
Tapas Mihir, divisional forest officer (DFO), south Kheri, told Hindustan Times that "field staff of both forest divisions had been sent to visit the spot and to identify the big cat," adding human casualty in a big cat attack was what counted more.
Sandip had gone to collect fodder for his domestic pets from the fields along the Sharda river on Monday evening. According to villagers, Sandip was collecting fodder when a big cat, described by the villagers to be a leopard, attacked him.
A critically injured Sandip was rushed to the Bijua Community Health Centre (CHC), where he was declared dead.
