PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 8 -- A 16-year-old boy, who went missing on the evening of September 4, was abducted, brutally assaulted, and murdered in Pratapgarh district, allegedly over a love affair, police said. His body was recovered on Sunday from an abandoned well in a nearby village, following a police search prompted by a video that captured the assault. The victim, Vikas Patel, was the youngest of three sons of Girivar Patel, a resident of Rajapur under Dehat Kotwali police station. He worked as a wedding decorator. According to family members, Vikas had left home on the evening of September 4 to buy some items but never returned. Concerned by his disappearance, Vikas's elder brother, Akash Patel, began searching for him. Locals near Mullapur village informed him that Vikas had been seen being beaten and dragged by several individuals towards a drainage area behind a gas agency. On Saturday, Vikas's mother, Shyamadevi, filed a formal missing person's report. She expressed suspicion that her son had been targeted due to his relationship with a girl from another village. Acting on the information provided by the family and local residents, police detained two suspects. A search operation was launched, and on Sunday, Vikas's body was discovered in a dilapidated well in the fields of Pandripur Humayunpur, a nearby village. As news of the recovery spread, villagers gathered at the scene. The police took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. According to local residents, tensions had flared about a month earlier due to Vikas's alleged relationship. A village council (panchayat) meeting was held to address the issue, during which it was reportedly decided that Vikas would cease all contact with the girl. Police said the assault video appeared to have been deliberately recorded to obscure the identities of the attackers. However, with assistance from the family and local witnesses, investigators were able to identify the suspects. Although there were no significant external injuries visible on the body, the post-mortem report confirmed that Vikas died from severe trauma to the chest, according to police. ASP (East) Shailendra Lal confirmed that all individuals involved in the crime have been identified....
